Training day on sleep, biorhythm, recovery, and HRV

For a long time, sleep was considered a waste of time and an inefficient recovery process. However, we now understand how essential it truly is. Sleep accounts for about one-third of our lives and, like food and water, is crucial for both physical and mental well-being. It impacts almost every tissue and system in our body, including the brain, heart, metabolism, and immune system.

During sleep, the body performs essential tasks:

  • Energy conservation and storage: Energy usage decreases, muscles relax, and cells repair and store energy.

  • Self-repair: Waste products are cleared out, new cells are generated, and hormones and growth factors are released.

  • Brain maintenance: The brain processes impressions and emotions, stores information, and clears waste products through the glymphatic system, which functions only during deep sleep.

Adequate sleep strengthens the immune system and reduces the risk of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.

In short, good sleep is the foundation of a healthy, productive, and balanced life. By prioritizing sleep, we invest in our short- and long-term well-being.
